Today, we’re talking Crossovers and Wagons, starting with the Honda HR-V. There’s been plenty of buzz around the HR-V with its spacious and comfortable interior, and sporty exterior. We were stoked to see the latest addition to Honda’s CUV lineup with its recessed door handles in the back and a convenient low-riding tailgate that opens to an accommodating 40 inches. The HR-V comes equipped with a Magic Seat that provides multiple seating configurations for added versatility.
Mazda is diving right into the city-minded small SUV market with its CX-3 which slides in under the CX-5 in the Mazda lineup. It’s powered by a 2-liter Mazda Skyactiv 4-cylinder engine, and it boasts cool headlamps, LED accents, and plenty of driver- and passenger-friendly features on the inside. What I like about the CX-3 is its forward facing visibility – you really get a bird’s eye view from behind the wheel.
BMW unveiled the X5M and the X6M wagons and they are screaming fast, folks. What I love about these wagons is that they successfully blend luxury, performance, and functionality. The engine for both of these beauties, with hefty air intakes for proper cooling, comes from the M5 sedan which is a 4.4-liter V8 that generates 567 horsepower and 537 lb-ft of torque. Good stuff!
The 2015 Porsche Macan gives Porsche a crossover that slips in under the Cayenne in terms of both size and price. The five-passenger Porsche Macan is also a quicker and more nimble handler right out of the box thanks to a chassis that borrows some of its tricks from the 911 Carrera sports car. All-wheel drive is standard with the Porsche Macan, which features a choice of turbocharged six-cylinder engines.
Priced at around $42,000, the Volvo V60 is a good value. It’s got a 250-horsepower, five cylinder engine, a raised suspension and AWD. It looks good, it’s solid from a functionality perspective, and of course the Volvo badge brings safety features we’ve all come to expect. It’s the smallest Cross Country model Volvo offers, and is expected to get about 23 MPG.
This is Michelle Naranjo with Autobytel and that’s your Fab Five Crossovers and Wagons of the 2014 LA Auto Show.
