Today, we’re highlighting Crossovers & Wagons, starting with the GLE-Class. Mercedes-Benz has fully embraced the four-door coupe with the GLE-Class. It’s an abbreviated version of the M-Class, with meatier fenders and a stout hood, and even though its sloped roof makes it a little bit challenging to climb in the back, it still beats the BMW X6 for cargo space. The GLE450 AMG 4MATIC Coupe features a 3.0-liter, twin-turbo V-6, while the GLE63 S Coupe 4MATIC ups the ante to a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8.
The Lincoln MKX boasts a more sculptured look, and what the automaker says is “an engaging and personalized driving experience.” New features include the first audio system in the industry with Revel speakers by Harman, and a new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. Two design themes have been added, known as “Black Label” – one that gets its cues from the exciting world of thoroughbred horse racing. Look for the new MKX this fall.
The V60 has been a popular seller for Volvo, so it makes sense the 2015 V60 Cross Country would follow in its footsteps. The Cross Country formula is simple – take the shape of the V60 Wagon, add AWD, another 2.6 inches of ground clearance, flared fenders, and skid plates for all terrain moxie. It comes equipped with a 2.5-liter, turbocharged five cylinder generating 250 horsepower.
The Mazda CX-3 is all new this year, with a focus on cargo room and passenger comfort. It borrows the Skyactiv drivetrain from the Mazda3, with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that should offer close to the 155 horses it does in the smaller hatchback once it reaches production. All-wheel drive will be available, with fuel economy projected to be near the top of its class. You’ll have to wait about six more months to get the CX-3. Pricing has yet to be released.
No doubt Audi is hopeful the Q5 mojo rubs off on the compact 2015 Audi Q3, which is just slightly shorter than the new A3 sedan. Doesn’t matter though. The Q3 will give owners a dynamic driving experience and premium equipment, including Quattro all-wheel drive, MMI navigation with voice control, and MMI touch with handwriting recognition, among other features. Its 2.0-liter turbocharged engine serves up 200 hp.
