Let’s talk about SUVs today, starting with Land Rover. The automaker’s big news in Detroit is the introduction of diesel engines to its Range Rover and Range Rover Sport this year - a 254 horsepower 3.0-liter turbodiesel V-6, with an estimated range of over 600 miles between fill-ups. The Td6 Diesel will be available in the fall, but the price wasn’t provided here in The Motor City. What we do know? Still expect the ultra-luxury and sophistication that is Range Rover.
The redesigned Escalade boasts a beautiful new, unmistakably Cadillac exterior with modern flare, and an interior that is more luxurious than ever. Don’t let its looks fool you though. This is a very capable SUV, with a towing capacity of 8,300 lbs. Under the hood is a 420 horsepower 6.2-liter V8 with a six speed automatic transmission. Four wheel drive is optional. Buyers can get the Cadillac Escalade now, starting at $72,970.
No SUV lineup would be complete without the Ford Explorer, the world’s SUV darling. The latest model features revamped styling, a new engine option, plenty of safety features, and a top of the line Platinum trim level. The new motor? An available 2.3-liter four cylinder, generating roughly 270 horsepower. We love the new self-washing front and rear cameras and inflatable rear seat belts.
The Subaru Outback is all new for 2015, and is available right now at a dealership near you. With a starting MSRP of $24,895, this is a great value for the economically-minded. AWD is standard, with your choice of a 2.5 liter four cylinder or a 3.6 liter six cylinder engine with a continuously-variable automatic transmission. This year’s Legacy gets upgrades to fit, finish, and technology.
The styling of the Kia Sorento is definitely memorable, and the completely redesigned 2016 model is larger and comfier than before. This year, Kia debuts a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four cylinder in addition to last year’s 2.4 liter four cylinder and 3.3 liter V-6. AWD is optional. You can get the new Sorento now, starting at $24,900.
