In Venezuela, a showdown at the Colombian border is heating up, as opposition supporters confront soldiers who have closed a key crossing point. Troops loyal to President Nicolas Maduro have fired tear gas at rock-throwing protesters in the Venezuelan border town of Urena. The clashes erupted as supporters of opposition leader and self-appointed Interim President Juan Guaido prepared to escort badly needed humanitarian aid across the border. Guaido has called on Venezuelan soldiers to let the convoy pass. Incumbent President Nicolas Maduro says his country does not need the aid deliveries, calling them a political stunt designed to undermine his government.
