Soldiers loyal to Venezuela's sitting President Nicolas Madura are preventing US aid from getting into Venezuela, as every day hundreds of desperate Venezuelans cross the border in search of a better life. More than three million people have already fled, while US aid for Venezuela is held up at the Colombian border. Now the US, which supports self-proclaimed Interim President Juan Guaido, has presented a draft resolution to the UN Security Council calling for a presidential vote. That immediately triggered a counter-proposal from Russia. Moscow supports Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and is likely to use its veto power to block a US resolution.
