India puts Kashmir on lockdown, fueling tensions in the region | DW News

India's government is revoking the special autonomous status of Indian-controlled Kashmir. The ruling Hindu-nationalist party BJP says it will scrap Article 370 which allowed the state of Jammu and Kashmir to make its own laws. The anouncement comes after authorities pot the region on lockdown, banning public gatherings, suspending phone and internet access there and placing popular state leaders under house arrest. The the disputed region is also claimed by Pakistan.
