Since 1967 this 3rd generation operated teo chiew porridge haven has been serving generations of customers from the neighborhood as well as from afar. The stall is kind of off-the-grid as it is literally located on a side street of Jalan Sultan in the heart of Chinatown KL where Petaling Street is. This street is a makeshift area where various trades happen throughout the day. On weekends, this is a flea pre-dawn market street, followed by a dumpling and pau stall at 9am, then followed by this teo chiew porridge stall in the late afternoon.

Manaweblife recorded a video about this stall four years ago and this newly recorded video provides an update. In fact, everything about this stall remains quite  the same...it's still authentic with an air of the 60s !

This is a hot spot for authentic teo chiew porridge that has a variety of over 30 old-style Chinese dishes to choose from. They are what our grandma used to cook : masterfully done yet simple, tasty traditional dishes that goes perfectly well with a bowl of porridge or rice. Amongst the dishes is a steam egg with meat neatly decorated with salted egg yolk and is named after Rose Chan, the Malaysian striptease queen of  the 50s. Come and get a taste of the good old times with this wonderful reminiscence. Traditional teo chiew porridge  stalls are becoming a disappearing scene as the newer generations would not have experienced the authentic taste of the good old days. So, this stall is probably the last of its kind around town to have survived more than 50 years.

This place starts serving dinner as early as 4.30pm to cater to the workers around here who want an early meal before work. Come join the authentic mood and take a trip back to the 60s with a good teo chiew meal at the back lane of KL's Chinatown.
