He is Mr Wong. He is 78 . And he has been doing this 2nd generation pork porridge since he was 14. This is the most traditional Chinese pork porridge that you'd probably find in KL. Here, at the Chow Kit wet market corner enclave where still exists a small remaining community of Chinese traders and shop operators, including a Chinese medical hall and a Chinese nasi lemak stall. At this porridge shop Mr. Wong starts his business as early as 5:30 am to catch the early morning breakfast crowd from around the vicinity. He is proud to serve his inherited recipe to his regular customers hands-on together with his helper. This video shows his daily routine in the preparation of this good old porridge. His ingredients are all made in-house and he even decorate his specialty with shreds of ginger and spring onions. It is not just pork that he serves in his porridge. Other ingredients you can choose include fish fillet and those rubbery curls of pig intestines. Have a go at this old-style pork porridge but be as early as you can as this interesting Chinese enclave changes to a different mode in the afternoon.
