Manaweblife encounters a rare traditional Chinese cake cottage business in the heartland of Serdang and discovered some unusual scenes. First, it looked like Playdoh being made into little pinkish turtles. Then Madam Ah Lian explains in Hakka that they are for made prayers. This video goes inside this age-old cottage to see how the huge steam covers are hoisted and the little turtles are steamed to come alive and rise up with smooth shinny surfaces. Then she writes lucky wishes on their back, together with lucky numbers. She is 66 and has been at this for nearly 4 decades at this 50-year old, 2nd generation factory that produces a wide variety of traditional Chinese cakes and "kuih", both for consumption and for prayers.
Business has been reduced, yet her passion keeps the steam going.
