The Volkswagen Golf has never been “just another hatchback” or an “econobox” rather the Golf can be considered a premium hatch thanks to its German Engineering. This Golf is special thanks to its 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo diesel engine under the hood. There are 150 horsepower and a whopping 236 lb-ft. of torque coming from this small diesel powerplant. With a 6-speed manual you can expect 30 MPG in the City and 45 MPG on the highway. The other transmission option is a DSG automatic which nets 31 MPG in the city and 43 MPG on the highway. The base model of the 2015 VW Golf TDI is the S which starts at $21,995.
Owning a Diesel powered hatchback depends on the type of driving you do. If you are big on highway driving and rack up the miles during long distance drives then there is nothing that beats the diesel when it comes to efficiency.
