The big change on the base model 2014 Passat is the new 1.8 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that replaces the old 2.5 liter 5-cylinder. The TDI engine and the V-6 are still part of the line-up but this new 1.8 will be sold on the majority of cars. The figures for the engine are 170 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque with fuel economy figures coming in at 24 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highway.

On the inside the cabin is nicely laid out with the most important feature being the huge amount of rear passenger room. For some reason the Passat is not a big seller in the sedan segment. But this car is stylish, roomy, comfortable, practical, and fun to drive. The Passat is also a Top Safety pick. Add in 2 years free maintenance and the Passat seems like a hard offer to pass up.
