Researchers have used a phenomenon called thermal transpiration to create a solar powered flying device that could one day carry sensors and communication equipment high in the mesosphere.
Because these devices can fly in any low-pressure environment, the team think that in future it could even be used to collect data in the thin atmosphere of Mars.
