Across Europe, big-tent mainstream parties lost voters to smaller populist and single-issue parties. The Greens did especially well among young voters, showing that the environment is a topic the EU will need to address more intensely in the coming term. Though populist parties did not do quite as well as many hoped, or feared, they will be a force to contend with if they can manage to form a cohesive group.
