John Cannon '15 is a Canadian student interested in asking questions about how biological systems work on the molecular and cellular level. In order to answer these questions he has combined a passion for art with the scientific method. John's current research focuses on neuronal development and on how the individual neurons that make up the brain function. John has worked at Carleton College in the lab of Dr. Sabrice Guerrier and has also worked at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Janelia Farm Research Campus in the lab of Dr. Julie Simpson.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
