Born in New York and a graduate of Carleton ('02), in 2003 Dave quit his office job and started wandering. He met the woman who would become his wife in the airport in Ulaanbaatar, and then in November 2009 they set out to travel the world by bicycle, bus, and train, looking for people taking action on the world's environmental problems. The result was the Permacyclists Project, a series of documentary films about people working to build a sustainable future. Dave now works for ATD Fourth World and lives in the Catskills with his wife and their adorable new baby, Elliott.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
