The 2019 Ford Explorer is the last model year of the fifth generation and it marks the end of the “crossover” esque version of Ford’s Midsized SUV. There is a new 6th gen coming next year but for now we have our hands on this 2019 model. Prices range from $32,365 for the Base FWD up to $54,165 for the Platinum 4x4.

Styling upfront consists of decent looking headlights, a nice sized grille with a little flash of chrome; its very familiar Ford style. The new 6th generation model has sleeker headlights and a better overall look but in terms of handsomeness this 5th generation is good looking especially with 20-inch wheels and this Burgundy Velvet paint color.

The base engine is a 3.5 liter V-6 that makes 290 horsepower and 255 lb-ft. or torque. The engine on the Limited model seen here is a 2.3 liter turbocharged EcoBoost 4-cylinder 280 horsepower 310 lb-ft. or torque. The transmission is a 6-speed automatic.

The interior of the Explorer is a nice place to site. The seats are actually really comfortable. The use of materials is great. The mis ox faux wood and black trim pairs nicely. Rear sear leg room is good and 3rd row space is suitable enough for the segment.

Competition includes the Chevy Blazer, GMC Acadia, Honda Passport, Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, Honda Pilot, and the Toyota Highlander.
