2017 Kia Niro Hybrid Crossover Test Drive Video Review – 46/40 MPG

The Niro is the first ever compact hybrid crossover from Kia. For those of you looking for a hybrid this might just be the Anti-Prius. Kia started developing the Niro back in 2012 and this vehicle was designed as a hybrid from the ground up. From the start this was destined to be a compact hybrid crossover and the vision has been realized.

There are 4 different trim levels ranging in price from $22,890 to $29,650. The model tested here is the top-of-the-line Touring trim which has a starting price of $29,650. Under the hood is a 1.4 liter 4-cylinder engine combined with an A/C electric motor that together produces 139 horsepower and 195 lb-ft of torque. Fuel economy is 46 MPG in the city and 40 MPG on the highway. The most fuel efficient version is the FE trim which gets a whopping 52 MPG in the city and 49 MPG on the highway.

If you want to drive an efficient vehicle but don’t want that familiar wedge shape associated with hybrids like the Prius the Kia Niro is a good and relatively affordable choice.
