Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro and opposition leader and self-appointed interim President Juan Guaido have backed rival visions for the country on its Independence Day. The two held separate rallies in the capital, Caracas. Leftist Maduro is holding on to power, but has offered fresh talks with the opposition. Guaido has ruled out further negotiations and is urging the military to abandon President Maduro. A number of political prisoners have been released but 630 people still remain in prison. UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet presented a controversial report based on the Venezuelan government's own figures.
