Manaweblife took a trip into KL's Pudu ICC and discovered a unexpected Chinese New Year cake, ‘nian gou’ / kuih bakul, stall. This family run business seems to be a hidden surprise with its variety of ‘nian gou’. Including the softer version that is shredded into small pieces and mixed with grated coconut and sold as ‘nian gou’ candies. There are the traditional leaf wrapped varieties too, big and small. ‘Nian gou’ is not to be missed as a must-have during Chinese New Year for good luck, or as a prayer item and to usher in the new lunar year. In fact, nian gou literally means new year cake in Mandarin !
