Iraq is in the grip of deadly anti-government protests, with at least 240 people killed so far this month. Latest reports say masked gunmen opened fire on protesters in the city of Karbala, killing eighteen of them. In the capital Baghdad, demonstrators have been defying a curfew imposed by officials. They say they won't leave the streets until an emergency government is in place. They are calling for an end to corruption and inequality. Some reports say security forces are firing tear gas canisters directly at protesters, which can prove fatal.
