Kathy Nimmer is an award-winning teacher, author, and motivational speaker from West Lafayette, Indiana. Blind due to a rare retinal disease, Nimmer is a frequent guest speaker for education and veterinary classes at Purdue University, as well as numerous conferences, seminars, churches, schools, and other venues both locally and nationally. In 2009, she was named a Lilly Distinguished Fellow, which paved the way for her to write and edit an anthology of stories and poems about assistance dogs and their disabled handlers, "Two Plus Four Equals One". In 2006, Nimmer won first place in the Helen Keller International Memoir Competition and published a book of poetry called "Minutes in the Dark, Eternity in the Light". Nimmer is presently in her twenty-second year of teaching English and Creative Writing at Harrison High School.
