Protesters in Hong Kong are gathering again to demand the resignation of the territory's chief executive, Carrie Lam, and for a halt to a controversial law that would allow for extradition to China. On Monday, student Joshua Wong, who has become the face of Hong Kong's pro-democracy movement, was released from prison and immediately called for Lam to quit. Wong's release coincidentally comes after organizers claim as many as two million people took to the streets of Hong Kong on Sunday. Under mounting pressure, Lam, who is backed by Beijing, had already promised to postpone the law, but it wasn't enough to quell the anger. For a few hours on Monday morning, demonstrators continued to block a road leading to government buildings. Their concerns over Beijing's tightening grip on the former British colony have not gone away. Many now see this as a battle for Hong Kong's soul. Demonstrators are staging another sit-in outside government headquarters to pressure Carrie Lam to resign. The protest comes a day after one of the largest rallies in Hong Kong's history with some two million people out on the streets.
