Ethiopia's building of the Grand Renaissance Dam dam on the Nile river causes conflicts in East Africa. At 6.45 gigawatts, the dam will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa when completed, as well as the 7th largest in the world. Disputes over the dam and the Nile river water supply lead to a feud that has been intensifying between Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan. Egypt, which gets most of its water supply from the Nile, is worried that its share of the water will be reduced when Ethiopia starts to fill the dam. Egypt's president has asked the US to mediate. Now delegations from Egypt, Ethiopia and Sudan met in Washington and also met with US President Donald Trump. But even if they come to an agreement, Egypt still faces broader water problems that have left its farmers struggling.
