The devastation caused by cyclone Idai in Southeast Africa is becoming clear more than five days after it tore through the region. Tropical storm Idai brought flash flooding and ferocious winds to Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Walawi and Madagascar . With communication networks down and roads cut off, the number of dead and injured remains unclear. In Mozambique, at least 84 people have been confirmed dead, but the government fears the death toll could rise to more than a thousand. The Red Cross says Cyclone Idai damaged or destroyed 90 percent of buildings in the port city of Beira, which is home to half a million residents. In neighbouring Zimbabwe, some 300 people are dead or still missing.
