The 2016 Sorento is an all-new and completely redesigned version of Kia’s largest SUV. Kia is trying to make the 2016 Sorento a much more upscale and classy vehicle and it really shows in the interior design. This new wonderful interior really beats out expectations with higher quality materials. The Kia Sorento is a 7-passenger SUV but the rear 3rd row is still tight on space.
The ride is firm and the steering is direct. Unfortunately the weather is an issue during this test drive evaluation. Overall the Sorento is a very nice effort from Kia and this SUV stacks up nicely against the competition. There are 3 different engine options on the 2016 Sorento. The first is a 2.4 liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 185 horsepower which is probably not enough for this large vehicle. The second engine is a 3.3 liter V-6 that makes 290 horsepower. There is also a new engine in the middle. The 2.0 liter turbocharged motor cranks out 240 horsepower which has better fuel economy than the V-6. You can get the Sorento equipped with FWD or AWD.
Pricing for the new 2016 Kia Sorento starts just under $26,000 for the base 4-cylinder FWD model and the higher trims can max out well above $40k. At the low end, the Sorento is a great value for a roomy 7-passenger SUV. At the high end you begin to compete with more accomplished 7-passenger SUVs like the Toyota Highlander. Overall the execution is great.
