The Chevy Cruze ECO's base price of $20k is thousands less than a diesel or hybrid car. The Cruze ECO delivers on what Chevrolet has promised: a very fuel efficient car that can break the 40 MPG barrier. Drivers repeatedly see low-mid 40 MPG's on extended road trips and that is on cheap 87 octane fuel. Sure those figures do not match a hybrid or diesel car but the Cruze ECO is thousands less. The icing on the cake is the fact that the Cruze ECO is an American car that is actually built in Ohio and not Mexico or Canada like a lot of other American cars.

Under the hood is a turbocharged 1.4 liter 4-cylinder that makes 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque. There is a manual and an automatic but the 6-speed manual transmission gets the better fuel economy at 28 MPG in the city and 42 MPG on the highway.
