Tens of thousands of people gathered in Rome to protest against the divisive rhetoric of the Italian far-right leader Matteo Salvini and his anti-immigration League Party. The gatherings started just a month ago in Bologna as a flash mob and have since evolved into a movement. Participants adopted the name 'sardines' to signify their aim to fill piazzas and other public spaces as tightly as possible.
