Italy's far-right Interior Minister Matteo Salvini is calling for snap elections in the country after pulling out of its governing coalition. Lawmakers are gearing up to debate and vote on a no-confidence motion against the current government, led by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. Polling suggests that if the government is toppled and new elections are held, Salvini would have a chance at becoming the new prime minister. But the political uncertainty comes as Italy is also due to begin negotiations on next year's budget. Rome has sparred repeatedly with Brussels over its finances in recent months. National debt has risen to more than twice of what EU rules allow, and Italy's election turmoil could deal a further blow to already sluggish eurozone growth.
