It is the United States's longest war: Afghanistan. Now entering its 18th year, varying estimates put the cost of the war between 932 billion and 2 trillion USD, with over 38,000 civilians killed. But is the US close to ending it all? In talks with the Taliban in Qatar, it appears an "agreement in principle" has been reached between both sides. It maintains that Afghan territory will not be used by the Taliban as a platform for international terrorism and a commitment that US forces will pull out of the country. However, it seems the Afghans themselves are missing at the drawing table.
