According to the United Nations, at least 70 migrants are now thought to have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea after leaving northwest Libya on Thursday. Their boat capsized near the Kerkennah Islands, off Sfax in Tunisia. The UN says this is the deadliest attempted crossing of the Mediterranean since January. At least sixteen people were rescued. The UN says that fewer people are making the journey to Europe, but these journeys are becoming deadlier. The European Union has internally agreed to distribute illegal migrants, but Italy says it's closed to migrants, though it did allow the humanitarian rescue ship Mare Jonio to dock in Lampedusa. Governments in Europe are coming under fire for their response to the drownings. Jan Egeland, head of humanitarian group The Norwegian Refugee Council, says the international community needs to stabilize Libya and the sub-Sahara African countries producing flows of migrants, and stop fueling the fire of conflict in Libya. Sea Watch's Chris Grodotzki joins DW in the studio to answer some difficult question.
