More than 80 migrants have been allowed to disembark the Mediterranean rescue ship Open Arms, and are now on the Italian island of Lampedusa. This ends a 19-day standoff that began after Italy refused to allow the ship to dock, despite offers from other countries to take the migrants in.
Spain on Tuesday dispatched a navy ship to bring the migrants to the Spanish island of Majorca, a journey that would have taken three more days. But as the ship was underway, Italian prosecutors intervened, finally ending the ordeal of those on board Open Arms.
