It's called the world’s worst industrial disaster, but the description barely captures what happened 35 years ago in Bhopal, the capital of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.

From the evening of December 2nd, 1984 and through the following morning, poisonous gas leaked from a pesticide plant and spread rapidly across the city.

On that first night, according to some estimates, more than 3,000 people died. That number would soon climb to 15,000.

Many of those who survived continue to suffer from a long list of health problems, including gynaecological disorders, cancer, and birth defects. Adequate compensation, healthcare, and above all, justice, still remain out of reach for most.
