The python hatchlings are fully develop by now. The nutritions of the yolk sack have been absorbed, the umbilical cord disappeared and with no further attachment to the egg shell, the young pythons are ready to hatch. Surprisingly, the female even seems agitated by the hatching of her own brute and the hatchling instinctively reacts by avoiding any sudden movements. Slowly, it slides onto the python’s body but the female’s twitching motion reveals her extremely aggravated state. She won’t attack her youngster thought, but a sudden strike could knock the hatchling to the ground only to be crushed by the weight of his own mother.
Clearly sensing danger, the alarmed hatchling is trying to escape its precarious situation by moving away from the giant python. Most hatchlings will leave their nest immediately and never return, while others linger for a short moment before departing. The ongoing commotion still keeps the python alert. Nervously she checks the moving hatchlings behind her own body and doesn’t hesitate to kick them away if needed. The female python has done her duty and takes no further interest in her young. They are on their own now. But before hunting down its first prey, all hatchlings will shad their skin within the next two weeks. Burmese pythons hatching was filmed by Heiko Kiera aka Ojatro in Florida in 2016.
