The remote islands of Raja Ampat in the Indonesian archipelago are home to a diversity of marine life, including the secretive giants of the ocean - manta rays. A team of researchers from Conservation International heads out on an expedition to learn more about the biology, population size and migration patterns of these astonishing animals to protect them from overfishing outside of marine-protected areas. Manta rays are listed as vulnerable to extinction, due to reckless overfishing. The study at Raja Ampat is key to manta conservation. Every dive is a chance to learn more about the gentle giants of Indonesia’s untamed seas.
