I hope this English lesson is exciting because I’m excited to teach you about the rules for adjectives ending in ed and adjectives ending in ed! Knowing which ending to use for adjectives is very important since you won’t get invited to any parties if you say, “I am boring.”

There are many adjectives in English that have two possible endings: an -ed ending and an -ing ending. Choosing the wrong ending is a very common mistake in English, but don’t worry because in today’s lesson you will learn the difference between ed and ing ending adjectives. Let’s learn when to use the Ed or ing form of adjectives!

Adjectives ending in - ed: Bored, Interested, Motivated, Terrified, Annoyed, exhausted. ED ending adjectives are used to describe a feeling. Use ed endings to talk about your feelings. I am tired from working hard. She is worried about her IELTS test results. They are confused about English grammar rules.
Adjectives ending in - ing: Boring, Interesting, Motivating, Terrifying, Annoying, Exhausting. ING ending adjectives are used to describe the characteristic of a particular noun. Ing endings describe the situation, thing, or person that is causing your feeling. My job is tiring. The increased crime rate is worrying. English grammar can be confusing.

So don’t tell people that you are boring. Maybe the movie you’re watching is boring, so you are bored. ED = Feeling, ING = Cause: I am frightened by the terrifying spider. He is depressed because of the overwhelming situation.

*Note: Don’t forget that in a sentence adjectives are always before the noun you’re describing or after the ‘be’ verb (am, are, is, was, were).

By the end of today’s English lesson you will have increased your English fluency by learning when to use adjectives ending in ed and when to use adjectives ending in ing. Using the correct adjective as taught in this grammar lesson will help you to sound more like a native English speaker. Thank you for watching, “How to Use -ED and -ING Adjectives in English: Improve your English with Adjective Endings!” I hope this English lesson will be useful for you as you improve your English and describe situations and describe your feelings correctly.
