Adjective Order in English: Learn the Correct Order of Adjectives! / 英語の形容詞の順番：形容詞の正しい順序を学んでください！

Adjectives are excellent words to use for improving your English, but when you’re describing something, do you know the correct order for adjectives in your sentences? Native English speakers naturally use adjectives in the correct order, however those studying English need to learn and practice the correct adjective order in English!

You may know that adjectives are used to describe a noun (a noun is a person, place, animal, or thing). You might also know that adjectives must go before the noun they’re describing. But did you know that when you use more than one adjective that there is a specific order that the adjectives must be put in. Using the correct word order in your sentences in very important for English communication. You can’t say a green, English, heavy, interesting book. You have to say an interesting, heavy, green, English book.

The correct order of adjective has 8 steps. When using more than one adjective they must be in the correct order:
1. Opinion (interesting, cute, comfortable, intelligent, amazing, pretty)
2. Size (big, enormous, small, tiny)
3. Shape (round, square, star-shaped)
4. Age (old, new, ancient)
5. Colour (purple, orange, green)
6. Origin (Canadian, Japanese, Spanish, Swiss)
7. Material (wooden, metal, plastic, glass)
8. Purpose / function (describes what is the item used for)

This lesson will give you several examples of how to use adjectives in the correct order, as well as providing you opportunities to practice what you’ve learned in the lesson. Using the correct adjective order in your sentences will greatly improve your English speaking and English writing when describing things.

形容詞の正しい順序には八つのステップがあります。1つより多くの形容詞を使う時それらが正しい順序にしなければならない。
1. Opinion 意見
2. Size サイズ
3. Shape 形
4. Age 年
5. Colour 色
6. Origin 起源
7. Material 材料.原料
8. Purpose /Function 目的/機能
