How to use USED TO in English: Improve your English Grammar! / 英語でどうやってUED TOを使うか: あなたの英文法を上達させる。

Maybe you never used to study English before, but perhaps now you are used to studying English! In today’s English grammar lesson, you will learn how to properly use ‘used to’ in your English speaking and writing!

First, this English lesson will teach you how to use ‘used to’ to talk about past habits / situations that are no longer true now in the present. For example, I used to drink lots of coffee when I was younger. In high school, I used to be in many clubs.

In this lesson you will also learn English expressions that you can use with ‘used to’ in order to emphasize the contrast between the way things were in the past and the way they are now in the present. You will learn how to use ‘used to’ together with but and words such as now, no longer, not anymore. For example, I used to study French, but now I study Japanese. I used to play the saxophone, but I no longer have one. I used to wear platform shoes, but I don’t anymore.

In the second part of this lesson you will learn the differences between ‘used to + base verb’ and ‘be used to verb + ing.’ For example, I never used to ride a bicycle, but now I am used to riding a bicycle. While ‘use to’ describes a past action or habit that doesn’t exist anymore now, ‘be used to’ describes an action that you have become accustomed to and are able to do easily now. There are many examples in the lesson so be sure to watch the whole video to learn lots of helpful English tips.

By the end of today’s English lesson you will have learned all about ‘used to’ (as well as ‘be used to verb + ing’) which will help you to sound more like a native English speaker.
