In this English grammar lesson you will learn the 3 Types of compound nouns which are closed form compound nouns, hyphenated compound nouns and open form compound nouns:
1. Closed form compound nouns are created by directly joining two or more words together to create a new unique noun. Ex: Notebook, Baseball, Cellphone, Newspaper.
2. Hyphenated compound nouns are made by joining two or more words together with a hyphen to make a new noun. Ex: Mother-in-law, Two-year-old, Dry-cleaning, Merry-go-round.
3. Open form compound nouns are created by putting two or more words together with a space between them to create a new concept with a specific meaning. Ex: Ice cream, High school, Real estate, First aid.
