1. Just add ’S’ for Regular nouns: Most nouns in English are regular nouns. The plural form of regular nouns is made by simply adding an ’S’ to the end of the singular noun: dogs, apples, books, days, shoes, cups, toys, cookies, etc.
2. Add ‘es’ for nouns ending in ‘s’, ‘x’, ‘z’, ‘ch’, ‘sh’: dishes, boxes, lunches, taxes, churches, glasses, wishes, classes, foxes, etc.
3. For nouns ending in a consonant plus a ‘y’, you need to get rid of the ‘y’ and add ‘ies’: babies, candies, puppies, bunnies, cities, stories, ponies, ladies, parties, skies, etc.
4. For nouns ending in ‘f’ or ‘fe’, you need to remove the ‘f’ or ‘fe’ and add ‘ves’: shelves, halves, wolves, lives, knifes, elves, wives, etc.
5. Add ‘es’ to most nouns ending in ‘o’: potatoes, mosquitoes, echoes, heroes, tomatoes, torpedoes, etc.
6. For nouns ending in ‘us’, delete the ‘us’ and add an ‘i’: cacti, octopi, foci, syllabi, etc.
7. Some plural nouns are made by changing the vowels in the middle of the word: women, geese, feet, men, teeth, etc.
8. Collective nouns and non-count nouns, especially groups of animals, don’t change at all. The singular noun form and the plural noun form are exactly the same: fish, sheep, deer, moose, shrimp, etc.
9. Some plural nouns don’t follow any rules and you just have to remember them: people, mice, children, dice, etc.
