There are 5 Ways to use Imperatives in English and this grammar lesson will teach you all of them. The 5 ways to use imperatives in English are:
1) Commands and Orders: Give me your money. Get down on the floor. Don’t say anything. Don't smoke in here. Stop talking to me.
2) Instructions and Directions: Preheat the oven. Mix the ingredients. Add some sugar. Take the subway. Walk two blocks south. Separate your clothes. Put the soap in the washing machine.
3) Advice and Warnings: Be careful! Don't trip. Don't swim too soon after eating. Look both ways before crossing the street. Wash your hands before you eat.
4) Requests: Help me, please. Please let me know what you think. Pass the salt, please.
5) Informal invitations: Come to my party. Visit me anytime. Please don't hesitate to ask for my help.

The grammar rules for making imperatives are simple:
- For positive sentences: Base verb + Object.
- For negative sentences: Don’t + Base verb + Object.
- You don’t need to add a subject when making sentences using the imperative!
- If you want to add ‘please’, put it at the very beginning of the sentence, or at the very end of the sentence with a comma before it.
