Today you are getting a very early first look at Ford’s all-new Escape compact SUV. Let’s review what is going to make this a seriously important vehicle for Ford.
Styling – A big departure from the current generation, the 2020 Escape is very European. Upfront the sleek and modern look is comprised of a grill derived from the Fusion and Mustang. In profile the 19-inch wheels and chrome window surround accent the vehicle. Out back the handsome tailgate has some nice dimensions to it and the LED taillights are very distinctive within this compact segment.
Powertrain – There are no fewer than 4 powertrain options for the 2020 Ford Escape. The base engine is a 1.5 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine equipped with cylinder deactivation. You can move up to a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo engine that makes 250 horsepower. Rounding out the engine options there are 2 hybrid powerplants consisting of a regular Atkinson cycle hybrid or a plug-in hybrid with up to 30 miles of all electric range.
Interior – Ford is keenly aware that rear seat legroom and cargo capacity are some of the most important aspects of a compact SUV. The rear row has a full six inches of travel front to rear which can allow for a lot of legroom. The goal of the cockpit was to create a relaxing environment for the driver. The dashboard is clean with a digital gauge cluster.
