2018 BMW X3 M40i Performance Edition Test Drive Video Review

The vehicle tested here is no mere entry base level crossover; this is the M40i performance edition which marks the marks the first M Performance version of an X3. New for 2018 is the 3rd generation luxury crossover with prices ranging from $42,650 for the base xDrive30i model up to $54,500 for the M40i model seen here.

There are 2 engine options available on the 2018 BMW X3 with the first being a 2.0 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder that makes 248 horsepower and the second engine equipped on the M40i model is a 3.0 liter turbocharged 6-cylinder that makes 355 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy ratings check in at 20 MPG in the city and 27 MPG on the highway.

The real magic is in the way it drives. The BMW M40i is surprisingly good. BMW engineers have tweaked and refined the chassis, suspension, and steering.
