2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA Test Drive Video Review

With a $12k markup over the standard STI, the Type RA has an asking price of $49,800. There are a very limited 500 numbered vehicles for sale. The suspension tuning, downforce, and styling all add up to make this car great but at $50k you really have to be comfortable spending that type of money on what amounts to a boy race look with a nice economy car interior. Unless you are tracking this car every weekend; you are going to have a tough time telling the difference between the Type RA and the regular STI model.

Design tweaks for the Type RA are from some angles almost imperceptible and from other angles very in your face. The gold BBS wheels are sized 19-inch wrapped in 245 series Yokohama tires. Out back the fixed rear wing is gone and in its place is a functional adjustable carbon fiber unit that provides rea downforce. More weight savings can be found up top with the carbon fiber roof. The 2018 Subaru WRX STI Type RA model sheds a total of 51 lbs. overall. Inside the cabin is familiar with only a few cosmetic tweaks here and there. Under the hood is the veteran 2.5 liter 4-cylinder turbocharged Boxer engine that produces 310 horsepower and 290 lb-ft. of torque.
