Staying power is important for any vehicle, and the EcoDiesel's 420 lb-ft of torque, 28-mpg on the highway, and great towing and hauling capabilities helped it fend off rivals from Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, and Toyota to handily win its category.
The Ram 1500 EcoDiesel also goes to show that taking a risk - in this case, the use of a turbodiesel drivetrain in a light truck platform - can often pay off big-time for automakers willing to stray from the status quo. Two years later, the industry is still playing catch-up in trying to bring another turbodiesel pickup to market. When they do, the Ram will be waiting.
