Number 5. The 55-story Woolworth building, then the world's second tallest, officially opened. Its initial funding came from 5 and 10 cents trades. When Wal-Mart was still a small upstart company, Woolworths was the discount retail giant.

Number 4. At an alimony hearing, the ex-wife of an allegedly wealthy mining promoter told the court even though she was provided with fancy clothing, she was often denied food. Apparently she didn't have much of a divorce attorney - the monthly payment being sought was 40 dollars.
