Number 5. The nation's reporters and media moguls gathered to pat themselves on the back at the fifth annual dinner for the Daily Newspaper Association. The toastmaster recalled the not so long ago time when some of those in the field were regarded as "scamps and scoundrels"

Number 4. The Philadelphia Ledger announced it was raising its paper price to 2 cents. In return, customers were promised more bulk and better quality in content and materials. Since the Internet caught on, newspapers have gotten noticeably smaller.

Number 3. Railways offered amenity-laden travel. The female traveler certainly looked cozy and surrounded by luxury.

Number 2. A woman grabbed somebody's baby out of a stroller and it was actually good news. She used the carriage and her belt to pull a drowning boy out of a pond.
