Former Deputy Speaker of the first Northern Ireland Assembly set up after the Peace Agreement, former Head of the European Commission Office in Northern Ireland and former BBC reporter, Jane is Vice President of the Brussels-based European Economic and Social Committee and Deputy Chief Commissioner of the Northern Ireland Equality Commission. A journalist by profession, she started her career in Brussels covering EU affairs and moved to BBC Belfast in 1987. Since then she has been involved in politics and peace-building. She helped set up the first EU Peace Programme in Northern Ireland and was a founder member of the Northern Ireland Women's Coalition -- a political party set up to promote peace and women in politics.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
