Veronica was once told that she would be in a wheelchair by the time she was 30 -- at that point, in her early 20's, she had been diagnosed with rare auto-immune disease that affected her joints and spine. She spent most of her time in constant pain, at times finding it extremely difficult to move even a small distance and she was confined to bed. In the better times she battled through the pain, trying to conceal the fact that she had a problem, desperate to be normal and just like everybody else. Exhausted and frustrated with the conventional approach to her problem, she decided to take control and began to research her disease, she learned about nutrition, meditation and other therapies. Through the changes she made and the alternative help that she sought she healed herself! Today 8 years on she is still in remission and is a senior external relations executive, is the mum of two great kids and uses every opportunity she can to spread the word about what she achieved by not accepting the prognosis and taking control.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
