Tension has reached a new peak in Hong Kong as clashes become more vigorous and frequent than ever. It may not look like it, but Hong Kong is also headed to elections. This Sunday, the battle will be taken to the ballot as millions cast their votes in the first local election since the pro-democracy movement broke out. The elections for local district councils ordinarily aren’t a center piece of the city’s political calendar, but this time round they’re being seen a referendum on the protests. Its also the only chance locals could have of being in a position to affect the election of the next Chief Executive. Among the candidates, a record number of novices run for their first time in the hope of winning a new front. DW's Phoebe Kong talked to two of the local candidates Hong Kong.
