The ancient walled city of Cuenca is perched upon the rocks above two deep gorges.



This excellent defensive position was recognized by the invading Moors, who built the city after 714.



The city traded hands between the Spanish Christians and the Moors several times until 1177.



Now the city is famous for awesome structures such as the Hanging Houses of Cuenca.



The city also contains a castle, a convent, the Mangana Tower, and many churches.



The most famous of these is the Cuenca Cathedral, built in the Anglo-Norman style.



The view alone from St. Paul's Bridge at night is worth a trip to Cuenca.
